fleece for sale

We sell quality fleece – alpaca, llama, and miniature cheviot sheep.

We primarily sell raw American Miniature (aka Brecknock Hill) Cheviot Wool from our flock ~ the very ones that were selected for use in “The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook” by Deborah Robson and Carol Ekarius (see pages 57 and 426). My flock of American Miniature Cheviots are all purebred and registered with the American Miniature Cheviot Sheep Registry. The fleece is sheared annually by a professional from Iowa that does a beautiful job with no second cuts and takes great care to minimize introducing foreign matter. Fleeces are skirted and immediately stored in a climate controlled, smoke and pet-free environment. We’ve been raising American Miniature Cheviots for twelve years and, over the years, have received compliments and acknowledgements of the quality of the wool. I am not a spinner but will do my best to answer any technical questions.

According to “The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook”, the fleece of American Miniature Cheviots are described as:

Fiber Diameter 25-32 microns (spinning counts 48s-58s)

Staple Length 3-7 inches or 7.5-17.8 centimeters
Fleece is crisp, dense, and even with a slight luster.

The Cheviots all have a unique, three-dimensional crimp.  Think of great sweaters, socks and other everyday garments, as well as blankets, pillows, and other household textiles. Some of the finer fleeces…may be compatible with next-to-the-skin wear. Like other Cheviots, the American Miniature Cheviot Wool is high bulk, resilient and of good quality.
